Becoming a Coach is a Trap for People Pleasers

June 24, 2025

Until You Decide It Isn't

You got into this work because you care.

Because you hold deep.

Because you see into the ache, the story, and the silence between someone’s words.

You became a coach because helping people feel seen is holy.

But somewhere along the way, something shifted.

You stopped trusting your instinct to challenge.

You held back the truth that felt too sharp.

You swallowed the question that might shake something loose.

You did it because you didn’t want to be too much.

Too direct. Too intense.

You didn’t want to risk the discomfort, the rupture, or the confrontation.

You didn’t want them to think you weren’t kind.

Maybe you were afraid that being real would offend someone.

Maybe you feared losing a client.

Maybe the cost felt too high, so you coached to be liked.

You coached to be soft.

You coached to stay in their good graces, instead of coaching them into their breakthrough.

And just like that, coaching—the thing that was supposed to set everyone free—

became another place to disappear.

Another polished container for people-pleasing.

Whether we like to admit it or not, the coaching industry loves people pleasers.

It tells you to hold space, but it never teaches you how to hold tension.

It sells “safe containers” like sacred balm, but never shows you how to stay when things get messy.

It trains you to smile, to nod, and to listen beautifully.

But then it asks you to tuck the real truth behind layers of spiritual language—

just to make sure no one feels offended.

Here’s the truth.

If you coach like it’s a popularity contest,

if you believe the most liked coach wins,

you will break your practice.

You will betray your clients.

You will lose yourself in the process.

Because transformation is not always comfortable.

It does not always feel safe.

And it is never, ever about being liked.

Sometimes the session ends in silence.

Sometimes it ends in rupture.

Sometimes the mirror you hold up is the first one your client has ever seen—

and it will cost you the performance of being agreeable.

But it will give them something real.

And that is the point.

The best coaches are not the ones who keep their clients happy.

They are the ones who hold the line when the client wants to run.

They are the ones who ask the question that shakes something awake.

They do not coach for harmony.

They coach for truth.

They coach for the moment the mask falls off,

and the client sees themselves clearly—even when it hurts.

That is what we teach at The Coaching Guild.

We do not teach you how to keep things soft.

We do not teach you how to perform your presence.

We teach you how to stay in the room when the story gets loud.

We teach you how to hold the moment without flinching.

We teach you how to be the kind of coach whose strength is quiet, but unshakable.

 Multi-instructor. Multi-disciplinary.

Rooted in nuance, liberation, and radical truth.

Designed for coaches who are done being polite at the cost of power.

This is not about holding hands.

This is about holding truth.

This is where you stop managing the emotions in the room.

This is where you start honoring the emergence.

The Coaching Guild is open now.

Applications are reviewed personally.

There is room for your depth here.

There is room for your unfiltered wisdom.

There is no room for pretending.

The Coaching Guild is a training coach training program specifically designed to nurture dreamers, artists, creatives, outsiders, rebels, and good troublemakers.
