Confusion is Not Premium

February 26, 2026

Clarity is the highest demonstration of skill.  Vague is gaslighting.

Confusion is not premium. If people can’t tell what you do, they can’t buy it. Clear is skilled.

I know a lot of people in the coaching space have been taught the opposite. They’ve been told that if their work sounds more mysterious, more layered, more abstract, it will feel more elevated. They’ve been taught that vagueness creates intrigue, that complexity signals depth, and that if people “don’t get it,” that somehow means the work is advanced.

It doesn’t.

Most of the time, confusion does not create desire. It creates hesitation.

If people cannot tell what you do, who it is for, or what is actually being offered, they do not feel impressed. They feel uncertain. They scroll past. They assume it is not for them. Or they decide it is probably not worth the effort of figuring out.

And honestly, they should not have to work that hard just to understand your offer.

Clarity is not the enemy of depth. Clarity is what makes depth accessible.

If you are good at what you do, you should be able to explain it plainly. Not because your work is simple, but because your thinking is developed enough to communicate it well.

Clear language is not “basic.” Clear language is skilled.

This matters for more than sales.

Clarity builds trust.

Clarity creates consent.

Clarity helps people make decisions with their eyes open.

When your messaging is vague, people cannot tell what they are agreeing to. They cannot assess whether it fits their needs. They cannot compare it to other options. They cannot refer it to someone else. And they certainly cannot buy with confidence.

A lot of coaches are accidentally hiding behind language that sounds beautiful but says very little.

That is not sophistication. That is avoidance with better branding.

If your work matters, let people find it.

Say what you do.

Say who it is for.

Say what changes.

Say how people can work with you.

Say what it costs.

You do not need to become louder, slicker, or more performative. You do not need to use guru tactics or pretend certainty you do not have. But you do need to be understandable.

The standard is clarity.

And if you are a coach who wants help making your marketing more clear, more ethical, and more effective without turning yourself into someone you hate online, that is exactly what I help people do inside Disruption School.
